Sky-storming rocks, alpine pastures at steep heights, untouched forests and often barely accessible valleys. Foaming mountain water and a unique plant and animal world. A habitat that has spawned some peoples with their languages and traditions.
The 4-part film series swings up into a bird's-eye view and visits people who face the challenges of this unique alpine landscape.
The Alps are shown in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy.
Zugspitze, Watzmann, the Königssee and the fairy tale castle Neuschwanstein are some of the highlights of the Bavarian Alps. Continue into the Höllentalklamm near Garmisch-Partenkirchen and with the forester in the mountain forest near Ruhpolding. A world champion of steep walls shows her art in the rock as well as in the ice of frozen waterfalls.
A grandiose summit view offers the landlords of the over 3,000-meter-high Meilerhütte. High up there is also an orphanage for marmots. On an alpine pasture, the Lippizaner stallions of the Spanish Riding School romp. Austria continues to shine with the mighty Glöckner massif, the Hohe Tauern National Park and the summit of Piz Buin.
In the west of Trentino, in the Adamello-Brenta Nature Park, brown bears have become home again. In the steep mountains near Laas a Cologne woman hires as a maid. At the Hochjochferner a glacier is surveyed and in the small village La Val sing the Ganes, the magic mermaids in Ladin. Italy's Alps include the unique rock massifs of the Dolomites, the almost 4,000 meter high Ortler as well as Lake Garda.
